2022 – ongoing
Microorganisms that reproduce rapidly are selected, and human definitions of them—expressed as textual microbial characteristics—are encoded into sequences of A, C, G, and T. These coded genes are then genetically inserted into the microorganisms, which multiply and grow within the gallery space and on other artworks. During the exhibition, the human-defined microbes merge with those already present in the gallery or introduced by visitors. The natural and the artificial thus intertwine in a symbiotic process, giving rise to a“third nature.”
